What is PokerProForAYear?
PokerProForAYear is a competition sponsored by Pacific Poker and PokerNews.com where one lucky poker player will be sponsored into 4 major poker tournaments in 2008, including airfares, accommodation and entry fees, valued at over $50,000! You could also win one of six packages to a major poker tournament like the WSOP, EPT or Aussie Millions in 2007! For full details on all our great prizes please refer to the ‘Prizes’ section.
How do I register for PokerProForAYear?
To register for PokerProForAYear, you need to go to our Download page, download Pacific Poker, and create a new account. You must sign up through our PokerProForAYear links to be eligible.
Once you have created a Pacific Poker account, simply go to our homepage and fill out the form on the left-hand side.
You must be 21 years of age or older to be eligible for the PokerProForAYear grand prize.
Am I eligible to play if I already have a Pacific Poker account?
PokerProForAYear is only open to new players that download Pacific Poker through any PokerNews website or PokerProForAYear.com, and register a new account – OR – players that have previously signed up to Pacific Poker through PokerNews. If you already have a Pacific Poker account through another affiliate, unfortunately you cannot participate in PokerProForAYear.
How do I become the PokerProForAYear?
In December 2007 ten finalists will battle it out in the PokerProForAYear Final, a live poker tournament that will be held at a secret location, and webcast on PokerNews.com The winner will be crowned the PokerProForAYear, and will win the amazing package worth over $50,000.
During 2007 these ten finalists will be decided through our 48-week PokerProForAYear League. The PokerProForAYear League consists of six eight-week Series where players can earn points through playing in our special tournaments.
Each Series contains seven low buyin tournaments, one $500 freeroll, and one Global Freeroll (requirements apply) – where one lucky player will receive an all expenses paid package to play in a live tournament such at the WSOP. All PokerProForAYear League tournaments and freerolls will be held at Pacific Poker.
At the end of each Series, the top ten points leaders will play off for a seat in the PokerProForAYear Final. At the end of the year the points from each Series will be added together and the winner of the Overall Leaderboard will also receive a place in the PokerProForAYear Final. The top 100 players on the Overall Leaderboard will then face off in a freeroll for the last three remaining places.
The ten players to compete in the PokerProForAYear Final will determined as follows:
- Series 1 Final winner
- Series 2 Final winner
- Series 3 Final winner
- Series 4 Final winner
- Series 5 Final winner
- Series 6 Final winner
- Overall Leaderboard winner
- Top 3 finishers in the Top 100 Overall Leaderboard Freeroll at the end of the year

How do I earn Points?
You can earn points in two ways:
- By playing any of our PokerProForAYear League buyin tournaments & freerolls.
- By playing any buyin tournament at Pacific Poker.
Points are awarded as follows:
PokerProForAYear League Events & $500 Freeroll
1st – 500 Points
2nd – 450 Points
3rd – 400 Points
4th – 350 Points
5th – 300 Points
6th – 250 Points
7th – 225 Points
8th – 200 Points
9th – 175 Points
10th – 150 PointsParticipation in League event = 80 Points*
*No points are awarded for participation in the $500 FreerollsPokerProForAYear Global Freerolls
1st – 12,000 Points
2nd – 9,000 Points
3rd – 5,000 Points
Participation = 2,000 Points
Any Pacific Poker buyin tournament
40 points for every $1 entry fee paid.
These points are only allocated to each individual Series and do not count towards the Overall League Leaderboard.
Maximum Points awarded per Series
There will be a maximum of 12,000 points awarded to any player in one Series.
This ensures an even playing field in each Series, and means that you do not have to be involved in the Series from the start. The more Pacific Poker events you play, the more points you will earn towards the Series Final.
Overall League Leaderboard
The overall League Leaderboard will comprise all the points earners from the Private PokerProForAYear League events. That includes the 7 small buy in events from each Series, the $500 Freerolls and the Global Freerolls. Points earned in everyday Pacific Poker tournaments will not count towards the overall Leaderboard. This is designed to reward players who have performed well in the League events throughout the year.
Why can’t I register for the tournaments?
All PokerProForAYear League tournaments and freerolls are only open to players that have signed up to Pacific Poker through PokerProForAYear or any PokerNews website.
You also need to register using the form on the PokerProForAYear.com homepage.
All the Global Freerolls have requirements you need to fulfil. You need to make a minimum deposit of $50 and then earn 200 Pacific Poker Points (see Cashier – Comp Points) for every Global Freeroll you wish to play. These 200 Pacific Poker Points must be earned in a specific time period.
